Interdependence

Chanda asks her brother, “Brother why do you waste water on plants everyday?” He replies, “Chanda, the way we need water to prepare our food, plants also need water to prepare their food.” Chanda says, “But I have never seen them preparing food.” The brother laughs, “Ha Ha Ha…Chanda you’re silly. Let me tell you how plants prepare their food. Plants prepare a carbonic food item, carbohydrates using water from the soil and carbon dioxide from the air through their leaves in the sunlight and release life-sustaining gas, oxygen.” Chanda exclaims, “Brother, these plants provide us with the pure gas oxygen which we breathe. These plants are beneficial for all of us. From today onwards I will also help you in caring for them.” By Vandana Bajpai, CHETNA
