Over 1,200 pangolins poached, trafficked in India during 2018-22

On the eve of World Pangolin Day, celebrated on February 18 every year, the World Wildlife Fund reported that between 2018 and 2022, more than 1,203 pangolins were poached and trafficked in India. Of all the states, Odisha had the highest seizures (154), followed by Maharashtra (135). Indian Pangolins are hunted and exported to markets in South Asia and China for their medicinal properties.
