A Ramsar site is a wetland site designated to be of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. They are unique or rare wetlands sites or are designated such for their importance in conserving biological diversity. India has, so far, declared 75 wetlands as Ramsar sites covering 23 states, making it the largest network of this critical ecological network in Asia.
